How the Arctic system works, how it is changing and what it will be like in the future, are important questions being asked by policy makers, land use managers, and people who reside in the Arctic. The second International Conference Arctic Research Planning (ICARP II) put voice to those questions and developed plans to address them. The decades ahead will continue to be characterized by rapid change in the Arctic, and the research perspectives from the ICARP II process will be essential to fostering opportunities and addressing challenges faced by this unique and special place on planet Earth.

ACIA
The Arctic Climate Impact Assessment (ACIA) is a study describing climate change in the Arctic and its consequences: rising temperatures, loss of sea ice, unprecedented melting of the Greenland ice sheet, and many impacts on ecosystems, animals, and people. ACIA was the first comprehensively researched, fully referenced, and independently reviewed evaluation of Arctic climate change and its impacts for the region and for the world. The Arctic Council and IASC guided the project. Three hundred scientists participated in the study over a span of three years.
