In this online seminar, Arctic PASSION will present the progress with the Arctic Shipping Service. Based on an analysis of historic shipping activity and new sea ice risk forecasts, the Arctic Shipping Service aims to improve available information about risk to ships operating in sea ice. We will present initial results from an historical analysis of risk for ships operating in the global Arctic from 2015-2022 and give an insight into patterns of recent risk. Additionally, we will present new sea ice risk forecasts based on the POLARIS methodology for assessing operational capabilities and limitations in ice, including feedback from onboard demonstrations of service trials.
