The call for session proposals closed on July 31 with an impressive number of submissions.
By the deadline, a total of 219 session proposals were submitted for the UArctic Congress 2026, the fifth of its kind to date.
The session call was focused on five themes: Sustainable Economic Development and International Cooperation; Oceans; Climate Change in the Arctic; Biodiversity; and Indigenous Peoples and Northern Communities. These event themes are aligned with the Kingdom of Denmark’s priorities for its Arctic Council Chairship. In addition, sessions with clear relevance could also be proposed under the "Other" category.
The submissions will next go through a review. Decisions on the final acceptance of sessions will be announced to the submitters at the end of September. The call for abstracts is planned to be open from mid-October until the end of November.
The UArctic Congress 2026 will take place from May 26 to 29, 2026 in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands. The event is hosted by the University of the Faroe Islands (Setur), in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Industry and Trade, and the Faroe Marine Research Institute.
