The 19th Polar Law Symposium welcomes submissions of abstracts for presentation at the upcoming Symposium to be held 9–11 November 2026 at the University of Waikato, Hamilton, Aotearoa New Zealand. This annual gathering brings together scholars, practitioners, policymakers, Indigenous representatives, and early-career researchers from around the world to engage with cutting-edge developments in polar law and governance.
Symposium Themes
The organising committee invites contributions on topics connected to the twin themes of the 2026 Symposium:
- Regime Interaction: Climate change, biodiversity, oceans, and protecting the polar environments
- Biculturalism and Polar Governance: These themes underscore pressing legal and governance challenges facing the Arctic and Antarctic, as well as broader questions of law, Indigenous rights, and environmental stewardship in polar and associated contexts.
The abstract submission deadline is on 30 April 2026. Information can be found here.
Accepted abstracts will be considered for inclusion in the Symposium programme and associated peer-reviewed publications in the Yearbook of Polar Law.
