The Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) is seeking an additional Council Chair and a Social Media Coordinator to join the Council leadership team from March to the end of the term (September 2026).
Council Chair
Council Chairs serve as a communication link between the APECS Council and the Executive Committee (ExCom), helping to foster new ideas and initiatives within the organisation. Working alongside two Co-Chairs, the role includes organising and chairing Council meetings every two months (across time zones), managing Council reporting, summarising reports, and sharing feedback.
This position offers valuable experience in meeting facilitation, communication, coordination, and organisational leadership — as well as insight into the day-to-day operations of APECS.
Social Media Coordinator
The Social Media Coordinator helps manage APECS’ presence across various platforms, sharing news, promoting opportunities, and engaging the international polar early-career community. The role is shared within a small team and involves close collaboration with the APECS Directorate and leadership.
Applicants should be familiar with major social media platforms, organised and reliable, and interested in creative communication approaches. The position provides insight into APECS’ daily management and partnerships while strengthening science communication skills.
Commitment and Application
Both roles require a commitment of approximately one hour per week. They are ideal for early-career researchers interested in gaining leadership experience and potentially applying for future APECS leadership positions.
