Climate and Cryosphere Open Science Conference: The Changing Cryosphere: Science, Impacts and Adaptation will be held in Wellington, New Zealand 9-12 February 2026. The meeting will bring together scientists studying the global cryosphere and climate, in the Arctic, Antarctic and mountain areas.

The final abstract deadline is 19 September 2025 (extended).

As Earth continues to warm, the loss of ice, snow, and permafrost is leading to irreversible global consequences with the poles and high mountain ranges changing faster than the rest of the globe. These changes in the cryosphere – including but not limited to substantial loss of sea ice in both hemispheres, continental ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica, Antarctic ice shelves, and mountain glaciers – have significant impacts on global sea-level, regional water availability, and feedbacks within the climate system. As a pan-cryospheric meeting, the CliC OSC will address all elements of the cryosphere and its climate connections. We invite scientistsresearchersscholarspractitionerseducators, and stakeholders to come together at the nexus of climate and cryosphere to learn from one anotheridentify knowledge gaps, and address emerging challenges. From modellers and observationalists to social scientists and community organizers, we welcome leading and emerging experts as well as early career researchers (ECRs) to present their work and discuss the state of cryospheric science.

Marking 30 years of CliC, the Climate and Cryosphere Open Science Conference will contribute to the UN Decade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences (2025-2034) and prepare the community for the 5th International Polar Year (2032-2033).The conference will include a diverse and cross-discipline town hall meeting, providing space for the international and interdisciplinary cryospheric community to make connections, discuss needs, find synergies, and plan meaningful action. The CliC OSC will also foster discussion around stakeholder engagement with the early career community and produce an edited special issue journal highlighting the resultant new collaborations and scientific advancements.
