Project Description

The 2026 international ARCPaC conference will be held in Aarhus, Denmark, from the 26th to 29th of May. ARCPaC is an interdisciplinary research network focusing on understanding climate and environmental changes in the Arctic during the Quaternary (past 2.6 million years). This includes the response of ice sheets and glaciers, high-latitude oceans, sea ice, terrestrial environments, and ecosystems to climate change, as well as the interactions between these systems and in relation to human activities. The annual meetings of the network represent an inclusive and open platform for knowledge exchange across career stages, focusing on cutting-edge science and informal networking, to evaluate the current understanding of Quaternary climate and environmental change in the Arctic and to develop new interdisciplinary research collaborations. The network is recognized for its inclusion and involvement of early career researchers. The 2026 annual conference will be an important milestone in deciding the future direction and priorities of the network for the next 5 years. As such, a strong representation of early career researchers is essential to incorporate their ideas and to move the network forward. With the 5th International Polar Year coming up, it is even more important to evaluate the current knowledge and to develop new research perspectives across disciplines and generations. The conference is co-funded by the Carlsberg Foundation, iCLIMATE Aarhus University Interdisciplinary Cluster for Climate Change, the Dansk Geologisk Forening, and IASC. IASC funding will exclusively be used to provide travel grants to early career researchers, enabling diverse participation independent of funding availability.
